PlayersUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)

The PlayersUnknown’s Battlegrounds is listed as the number 1 most played online game in 2022, with over 100 million active players. According to Clement (2021), “As of July 2020, it reached over 70 million copies sold worldwide.”
PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds, or “PUBG,” has established itself as one of the best games available today. Bluehole studio, based in Korea, created the famous battle royale game. It is a player versus player shooter game in which up to 100 players compete in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch in which players compete to be the last man standing.
Players can enter the match as a solo player, a duo, or a small group of up to four people. It is unique to other battle royale games because it is based on real-life mechanics and graphics, with the exception that the pan can stop any bullet and players can heal their health; additionally, the game is available on mobile, whereas most high-resolution games are not due to rendering issues and low GPU capabilities.
Minecraft

Minecraft
At number 2 is the famous sandbox video game – Minecraft. According to The Washington Post (2013), “Minecraft is a video game in which players create and break apart various kinds of blocks in three-dimensional worlds. The game’s two main modes are Survival and Creative.” Players in Survival mode must gather their own building materials and food. They also interact with mobs that look like blocks or move around. While, In Creative, players are given unlimited supplies and do not have to eat to survive. They can also break all kinds of blocks immediately.
With over 95 million active players as of 2022, this game has been in the gaming world since 2011. This simple game hasn’t even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus “Notch” Persson, and this is his story.
What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time, but after a giant popularity spike, he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began.
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon, and on January 12, 2011, sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing.
Apex Legends

Respawn Entertainment’s latest game had ten million downloads after only 72 hours. Respawn CEO Vince Zampella provided an official update on the game’s player count one week after its release. Within the first week, the 10 million downloads had more than doubled to 25 million. And on the one-month anniversary of Apex? The number doubled once more, bringing the total number of downloads to 50 million.
Fortnite Battle Royale

Ranked as number four, Fortnite Battle Royale, developed by Epic Games, is a survival game wherein 100 players compete in player versus player combat to see who will be the last one standing. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed game.
Players are dropped onto a small island only with an axe and must scavenge for more weapons while avoiding a deadly electrical storm. As players are eliminated, the playing field shrinks, causing players to be closer together. Updates flash on-screen on a regular basis, detailing how another player was killed, such as “X killed Y with a grenade,” heightening the sense of urgency. You can also team up with friends or other players to outlast other teams. Use the power of wood, brick, and metal to build structures to help you out.
As stated by Epic Games (2020), “There’s always something to look forward to in Fortnite Battle Royale, including new items, weapons, vehicles, submodes, special events, and “Seasons.” Each new season brings a distinct theme to the Island, like the past secret agent takeover and giant flood.”
Fortnite is estimated to have 125 million players. As of now, it has about 45 million active players.
CS: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike is a tactical first-person shooter video game in which a team of counter-terrorists battles a team of terrorists in a series of rounds lasting four or five minutes, with the winner being determined by either completing a mission objective or eliminating the opposing force. Counter-Strike evolved from a fun diversion into a way of life, spawning rhetorical communities of gamers and people looking for nonstop action in street-style combat. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive reveals a fantasy theme centered on terrorism.
According to Clement (2022), “In January 2022, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) had on average 991.63 thousand peak concurrent players on Steam. This figure had peaked in March of the preceding year at nearly 1.2 million players, no doubt in part due to the coronavirus pandemic, which spread across the world in 2020. As millions of people were encouraged and, in some cases, legally required to stay at home, many people turned to video gaming as a form of entertainment.”
