More AI Being Deployed in the Philippine Healthcare Sector
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a critical component in the digitalization of healthcare, allowing us to improve care delivery, expand precision medicine, and improve the patient experience. People all over the world are being encouraged to implement healthier habits by adopting technological tools and apps that help with proactive lifestyle management and give them control over their health and well-being. Moreover, AI helps healthcare providers better understand the day-to-day trends and requirements of the individuals they care for, allowing them to provide greater feedback, guidance, and support to help people stay healthy.
In fact, our country has recently developed an artificial intelligence (AI) technology that will aid healthcare during the ongoing pandemic, the two COVID AI technologies were featured in a list of the agency’s AI technologies and programs developed and deployed. The first application tries to figure out if a patient has COVID-19 or just viral pneumonia, then the other app which was revealed last June 24, 2021, by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was known to be the AI gender-responsive COVID-19 Cases Monitor. The device maintained the COVID-19 related indicators that are relevant to decision-making and proper response of LGU administrators such as congressmen, governors, mayors, barangay captains, and LGUs’ health service providers. The said related indicators include the site, gender, age, special situations such as pregnant women, infection severity (asymptomatic, moderate, severe), number of fatalities, number of recoveries, front-line health, and hospital bed capacity.
In telemedicine, AI is being utilized to facilitate communication between doctors and patients for the purposes of medical consultation during unusual times or in cases when distance is an impediment for the patients. The global need for smart healthcare, which includes telehealth and telemedicine, is growing. From the provision of electronic medical cards to personal consultations, telehealth is one of the newest businesses to make considerable use of AI. As the field of telemedicine and telehealth evolves with growing adoption, AI’s involvement in telemedicine will grow dramatically. In the coming future, AI technology will progressively execute a variety of activities independently, allowing medical practitioners to focus on improving patient outcomes.
