How Does Noise Pollution Affects Us?

[FACTS ABOUT NOISE POLLUTION] The Environmental Pollution Center defined noise pollution as the regular exposure to elevated sound levels that may lead to adverse effects in humans or other living organisms such as trees and animals. According to a study, pollution is 'artificial or man aided alteration of the environment's chemical, physical or biological quality to the extent detrimental to that environment or beyond the acceptable limit (Anees et al., 2017).
Such problems can occur both inland and the sea: human activities in the ocean are harmful to sea creatures, specifically whales because they depend on echolocation to live. It is said by a global energy leader ‘Iberdrola’ that noise can cause attacks of stress, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and hysteria in both humans and animals.
We encounter millions of unnecessary noises such as loud car honks, busy streets, music concerts, alarms, construction sites, aircraft turmoil, and whatnot almost every day. Studies have shown that sound is essential for animals because they navigate, find food, attract mates, and avoid predators. The World Health Organization stated that more than 8 hours of exposure to constant noise beyond 85db (Decibel) might be harmful. It affects the way we live life because it could result in a common health problem: Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).
[SOLUTIONS FOR NOISE POLLUTION]
It is proposed by a global energy leader, ‘Iberdrola,’ that fixing traffic congestion lessens noise from public and private vehicles. Conserve Energy Future urges people to be good neighbors, be mindful of the amount of noise they produce, and tone the volume down during nighttime or work hours to lessen disturbance. Reaching out to your elected officials is also a helpful way to suggest new policies that could fight against global warming.
The FAO of the United Nations promotes the program of planting trees regularly in most cities to improve air quality which contributes to a healthier and livelihood environment — for instance, riding a bike, taking public transport, or driving an electric or hybrid car (Abdulgafar, 2019).
Lastly, instead of attending loud lectures or discussions, follow soundwalks where you walk and connect with wildlife (Malik, 2021). Investing in eco-friendly commute choices is an excellent way to overcome the issue. This promotes immense connection to nature and meditation.
