Elon Musk made an unsolicited $44 billion offer for the social media site in April, claiming he wants to make Twitter a private firm and open the platform up to more free speech. Problems started soon after Mr. Musk and Twitter came to an agreement. Due to a persistent disagreement between the parties on the quantity of spam accounts, Mr. Musk declared in July that the arrangement was being terminated. On October 4, Mr. Musk made an unexpected proposal to buy Twitter for $44 billion, the price he had previously accepted to pay for the firm in April. The transaction was completed on October 27. At least four of the senior Twitter executives were among the first to be fired by Mr. Musk.
