Getting In Shape with the Help of an AI

While strolling through the city going for a walk, I recognized that some people that I have known changed in terms of body shape. It got me thinking that “Would they go on a diet if they are aware of their weight?” and to encourage them, I came up with an idea, what if technology is included, knowing that technology is continuing to evolve, with the knowledge of developing an A.I and encouraging them, “Will they undergo the process of changing their body shape and shifting to a healthy diet plan?”.  

Since the mainstream adoption of smartphones during the last decade, consumers have since had easy access to a tremendous amount of health information through websites, social media, and health apps. Health apps provide information to users whenever and wherever they want, and are tools for users who have a goal to improve their health. Diet apps and physical activity apps are 2 types of health apps that aim to promote healthy eating and increased energy expenditure through monitoring dietary intake and Physical Activity.

Many different types of diet and Physical Activity apps exist in app stores on different platforms. Diet/caloric intake apps and PA apps (fitness/training) are among the most popular in the “health and wellness” categories in app stores . A diet app typically requires users to manually register what they eat each day. It converts food consumption into nutrition intake, summarizes results in plots and graphs, compares results with nutrition goals, offers nutrition and dieting information, and allows users to add their social network . 

Realizing that every now and then, there are new restaurants that have started to open for business in the Philippines, most of them are Samgyupsals, a Korean BBQ restaurant popular for their Grill-All-You-Can. People who are aware of their BMI lead to limit them in eating in such restaurants because of no proper knowledge of what to consume so that they can maintain or reach their body shape goal, and which can cause them to develop Anorexia nervosa, also called anorexia, an eating disorder. This disorder makes you obsess about your weight and food, which can critically stay in your zone, and might lead you to also go underweight, which is not good. Knowing the current state of the Philippines.

 Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s  latest survey shows that around 27 million Filipinos are overweight and obese, and many are quickly approaching line to that. For the past two decades, overweight and obesity among adults has almost doubled from 20.2% in 1998 to 36.6% in 2019. 

Given the current obesity epidemic within the Philippines. and in many other countries around the world, there is a great need for effective theory-driven tools to help individuals manage weight. Aside from tracking energy intake, other aspects of diet may be important to monitor. For instance, shifts in diet toward greater intake of processed foods, meals outside of the home, and greater amounts of oil and sugar-added foods have been implicated as potential causes of the global obesity epidemic. Within the Philippines, shifts in portion sizes may be responsible for increased energy intake and obesity. Moreover, diet tracking may be particularly useful for those who are at risk of or who already need to manage specific diet-related health issues, such as a need to monitor carbohydrate intake for metabolic disease syndrome , sodium intake for hypertension , or food elimination for irritable bowel syndrome, or allergies.

Obesity and overweight are the result of a plethora of environmental factors that are known to influence individuals’ food intake and physical activity . As obesity is a global public health challenge that leads to numerous health, social, and economic difficulties. It is important to help individuals make better and healthier dietary choices.

And every day, at least 95 children in the Philippines die from malnutrition. Twenty-seven out of 1,000 Filipino children do not get past their fifth birthday. A third of Filipino children are stunted, or short for their age. Stunting after 2 years of age can be permanent, irreversible and even fatal. Each of the country has this kind of problem, but in every problem there is a solution but  only the people are willing follow and cooperate in preventing the amount of malnutrition, obesity and overweight from increasing, thankfully the government are willingly developed a feeding program for the children that are suffering in malnutrition and there are public gyms that people can utilize on achieving their body shape, what they need right now is the knowledge of what to consume based on their current body status. 

Some people can quickly lose weight on their own by following a basic diet and exercising regularly. However, many popular weight-loss methods are ineffective. Cleanses, fad diets, and crash diets don’t work for the majority of individuals in the long run. But still, It’s hard to reach your goal without someone helping you out unless you have a strong will to lose weight or inspiration.
Consuming a healthy and well balanced diet is an essential part of achieving and maintaining a healthy body. A healthy diet usually consists of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meat, grains etc and less trans-fats, sugar and salts which the body doesn’t benefit much from when consumed. The consumption of healthy foods allows the body to grow and stay strong with the nutrients from the food that is consumed and it helps in maintaining a healthy and reasonable body weight. The benefits of consuming a healthy and well balanced diet is it allows a person to prevent or avoid certain diseases or disorders such as obesity, stroke, cancers, heart diseases and type -2 diabetes that may cause harm to a person.

Portion size refers to the amount of food that is served, a healthy portion size is the right quantity of food that a person should consume to remain healthy and fit.   1. Autonomous weapons. These “killer robots” are military robots and drones that can search their targets and aim independently according to pre-programmed instructions. Almost all technically advanced countries in the world are developing such robots. Future wars would not be fought by humans, and the use of autonomous lethal weapons would be inevitable. But what if such weapons cannot distinguish between their targets and innocent people? A serious problem would be if these killer robots were developed by governments that do not care about human life.
  1. Loss of human jobs. As AI becomes more advanced it will obviously take over jobs that were once performed by humans. According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, around 800 million jobs could be lost worldwide due to automation by 2030. Robots do not need to be paid, so the owners of AI-driven companies would make all the profits, increasing the gap between the rich and the poor even further.
