Getting medical check-ups through our fingertips in front of our screens was just a dream back then. Who knew medical herbs would turn into capsules and traditional face-to-face check-ups would be digitalized with real-time updates and suggestions for our health?
Artificial Intelligence or AI refers to machine(s) that were programmed to act and think like humans, giving them the ability to process data and solve problems that provide help in our daily lives (Frankenfield, 2022). Diseases emerging from left and right are multiplying our need for more medical experts to treat an increasing number of patients and the application of AI in this field is greatly valued as it provides a huge helping hand to our professionals in Asia and the whole world. Additionally, the positive results of the earliest iteration of AI in healthcare prove that the future of AI in the medical field holds a promising amount of potential that will definitely help us in some way or form.
AI’s greatest strength may sound cliché but it is the fact that they are machines
that can work efficiently with precision and low cost. It also can be anywhere at any time, since some devices are already equipped with the ability to analyze an individual’s health by just wearing them; just imagine this technology five to ten years from now.
Each of these five applications of AI in healthcare has a specific goal to benefit humanity. The first is Medical Imaging, which employs methods to identify tumors and diseases. Second is the Preliminary Diagnosis, which allows an advanced check-up especially those who have no time to set a scheduled one. The third use of Al is Discovering New Medicine based on gathered and analyzed data from repeated medical session. The fourth one is AI-Assisted Surgeries, which are used to monitor surgeon movements during complex surgery with an embedded “Icanalert” warning if the surgeon is about to do something out of the norm. The last one is Virtual Nursing Assistants, which are accessible through an app on the phone – conducting daily check-ups with the patient.
