BOOM Esports won the GAMERS GALAXY:
Invitational Series Dubai 2022 by defeating Tundra Esports 3-2 in the best-of-5grand finals. BOOM Esports is an Indonesian competitive squad made
up almost entirely of Filipinos.
BOOM finished the group stages undefeated but was immediately thrown in the lower bracket by Tundra come playoffs. They defeated Team Secret, Nigma Galaxy, and reigning TI champions Team Spirit in order to claw themselves back into a rematch with Tundra in the grand finals.
In the grand finals, BOOM found themselves in a pickle as they trailed 2-1 behind Tundra. Fortunately. Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer turned on his engines as he proceeded to lead BOOM in Game 4 and 5 victories thereby winning the tournament.
When asked about how they’re feeling after the tournament, Yopaj simply stated that he was just happy to learn and play in the tournament.
“First of all, shoutout to BOOM’s fans and Rivalry. [I’m just] happy to learn and play [in this LAN tournament at Dubai. I’m really proud of our team,” the BOOM star midlaner stated.
With his brilliant performance, Yopaj had earned praises, with Tundra’s Leon “Nine” Kirilin describing him as the best midlaner he fought against with in the past year, along with the rest of BOOM being touted as a notable contender at this year’s TI. However, Yopaj remained humble as he hinted that the team still has a long way to go.
“We’re not really thinking about [being one of this year’s The International contenders to win it all]. We just want to learn, improve, and play our game.”
BOOM Esports is set to receive AED 400,000, which is about PHP 5.7 million, from the AED 1,000,000 prize pool.
